Overview

Grafana is an interesting open-source and cost-effective visualization tool that I happened to use for one of my clients. After almost 7 months of using it, my opinion is that Grafana is great if you know to develop queries in Redshift (or any relational database it supports) and if you can effectively parse and extract data points from JSON structures.

Grafana is popular among application developers, system administrators, and DevOps engineers to monitor the health and performance of their applications, servers, networks, and resources. But it can also double-up as a dynamic platform for data analysts, data engineers and business managers to visualize key metrics and trends; aiding in informed decision-making and strategic planning. Features of Grafana

Being a data engineer , I am often required to share my time between developing Lambda pipelines to move data from different sources such as CustomerIO, Posthog, etc. onto a cloud data warehouse such as Redshift and also create quick reports of insights. Grafana enables me to spend minimal time in creating visualizations and focus more on data warehousing and development of data pipelines.
